State panel OKs bill to overhaul nursing homes’ staffing rules
HB 1776: Bad for Nursing Home Residents! Destroys state staffing regulations! Strips nursing homes of any accountability to residents and their families. Will leave Arkansas families in the dark on how nursing homes are actually staffed!
Nursing home data blemishes the ratings
Nursing homes have a 1 to 5 star rating system that is supposed to tell us what type of quality our loved ones will receive.
A recent investigation has shown disturbing truths about how nursing homes obscure this rating system by “...sleightof-hand maneuvers to improve their ratings and hide shortcomings…” [Northwest Arkansas Democratic Gazette, March 14, 2021]
This investigation has shown that, regardless of rating, nursing homes have suffered staggering COVID-19 illnesses and deaths across the board. It has also shown that our loved ones in nursing homes have suffered ongoing harmful and horrible practices, such as physical and sexual abuse, at nursing homes across the country.
Holding these wrongdoers accountable for abusing our most vulnerable citizens accountable is the sort of situation that our 7th Amendment was made for. We need to defend our rights. Stand up for our 7th Amendment, protect our seniors.
Drunk VA pathologist gets 20 years in veteran’s death
Robert Morriss Levy, a doctor for the VA, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in 2019 and was recently indicted on these charges and others. An investigation has found that since 2005 he is responsible for at least 30 instances of diagnoses missed that were far along enough to have serious medical consequences. How many veterans - how many patients - get hurt by one wrongdoer or one negligent hospital?
This shows a lack of accountability that Arkansans cannot afford. Our best protection against negligence like this is recourse in civil court.
Range of measures on lineup for state Legislature
On the legislature’s agenda this year will be “…whether to refer a proposed constitutional amendment to overhaul tort laws to votes in the 2022 general election. …. The legislature will consider referring to voters for the 2022 general election up to three constitutional amendments. ‘I would like to see them do tort reform,” Hutchinson said. He said he would like the legislature to take the approach of proposing a constitutional amendment that would authorize the General Assembly to enact limitations on damages without specifying what would the limitations would be.”
Politicians are going to ask you to willfully surrender your Constitutional rights to them. Do you support amending our state Constitution to override the Arkansas Bill of Rights and surrender your Constitutional rights to politicians in Little Rock?

Profit and pain: How California’s largest nursing home chain amassed millions as scrutiny mounted
Corporate nursing homes are rigging the system across the country. As advocacy groups call for transparency, documents help trace the flow of public money to a complex network of related companies.
